Jeff Speich, President

Board of Directors

Jeff is a retired Supervising Forester for NYS DEC. He holds a BS from SUNY ESF and AAS from SUNY ESF Ranger School. He oversaw the newly formed Region 5 ReLeaf Committee and the Urban and Community Forestry Grants program for Region 5. He is published in an article on hardwood seedling production. Having worked for New York City, The City Parks Foundation, the DEC and 30+ years volunteer in scouting and several private jobs, he brings an interesting approach to working with volunteers. He is a certified pesticide applicator and a certified ISA Arborist. He is a trained responder for the Forest Service Urban Forest Strike Team. He often assists at college fairs for ESF and he is the past secretary and past president of the Ranger School Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is an Eagle Scout and a faculty member of the National Camp School teaching conservation and other related topics. He was a member of his local volunteer ambulance corps. He is a cancer survivor and he participated in the World Trade Center 9/11 cleanup. He is the manager of the SUNY Adirondack arboretum. He works with the Jamaica National government assisting with grant administration and training for a youth directed trails program in the Blue Mountains. He assists at the Wiawaka Center and St. Mary’s of the Lake. He also assists several local communities with their community forestry projects and grant applications. Currently he resides at his family’s homestead and is renovating the buildings and managing the forest.

Camps are near and dear to him. He is now retired and needs to remain busy and involved. He wants to lend his experience and energy to worthwhile causes. He has visited CLN, and he spent a day or two cutting trees there. He has also offered to help CLN with a variety of topics in his fields of interest. As he learned during the interview and through other conversations, there is plenty to do to preserve the camp and its value to the communities it serves.
